Oban 1

Being a Network Member in Oban means you always know there is someone else out there to help you or that there is someone else out there that you can help. Our Network meets regularly- sometimes with a staff member and sometimes without.

At the moment, our Network is working together to write letters to the Council to say we need our buses as the Council says it will cut the timetables. Some of us are also working with other people out and about to help reopen our cinema, which we hope the community will own. We are also hoping to make links with LORN, which is our local sustainable community network.

Our Network can be a lifeline to some members. Before joining, some members were very lonely. We are welcoming and we look out for each other. We do lots of fun things like have barbeques and go for walks. We also keep an eye on each other when we know someone is having a hard time- some people get depressed and others have money worries- we talk about these things as a ‘problem shared is a problem halved’. We help each other out with practical things too- like looking after each other’s pets when we are away, helping each other with shopping and helping each other know where to go if we have a problem. Being a member isn’t like other support, as its much more about being a part of things.
