PUBLIC STATEMENT: 24TH MAY, 2011

STORMY WEATHER

Neighbourhood Networks held two open meetings yesterday, Monday 23rd May, in Oban and Lochgilphead, to reflect on recent developments which have seen its contract with Argyll and Bute Council terminated at short notice, and without consultation with the men and women directly affected.

Despite the gales and travel disruption, the Lochgilphead meeting was particularly well attended by a range of supporters from the local community, elected members of Argyll and Bute Council, and regional MSP, Mike Mackenzie.

First steps have now been taken to establish support groups in each town to take the work of the Networks forward; and to obtain legal advice regarding the Council’s infringements of Equalities legislation.
