The role of our Community Living Workers – William

Our Community Living Workers are the front line of our organisation. They are the guys working in our communities supporting our members in a whole variety of ways to be connected and live their lives in a full and happy way as independently as possible.  The role is quite different from traditional support worker roles and at times it can be difficult to explain exactly what it is. Over the last few months we have been creating a series of videos and blogs to let our Community Living Workers tell you more about the role themselves.

Lets meet William who is the Community Living Worker for one of our networks in North Lanarkshire

Hi William, so what attracted you to working with Neighbourhood Networks? – “I like supporting folk! I prefer to help people to do things for themselves – to learn. I hadn’t heard of Neighbourhood Networks before I seen the job advert in the local paper. The flexibility of the post was ideal. I didn’t want a full time job and this role allows you to fit the hours around college or other commitments.”

Do you enjoy the role? – “Yes I do enjoy the role and I’m still here after 8 years! The induction was good to help understand about how the role is different from many support roles. It is a good size of organisation and it is good to see it grow while still keeping hold of the core values. Support is kept local and you can contact anyone.”

What do you enjoy most about the role? – “Seeing people develop skills and then feeling confident to share those skills with others. That’s the best bit. Keeping it simple and supporting people to do things for themselves.”
