Darryl Old
Health Watch
Darryl is a member of the Midlothian Networks. He always wears headphones and has an iPad with him to make himself feel more comfortable in group settings as he can be a bit shy. If Darryl starts to feel overwhelmed, he will watch something on his iPad to make him feel at ease.
When we spoke to him about joining our digital watch project to increase his exercise he was instantly on board! We met Darryl at a local restaurant to help him set up his digital watch. We went through all that it can do and explained that it can be connected to his phone as well. When he came along to the weekly meet up Darryl would show the new watch face he had selected for that day to the other members. All the members were supportive, and some would show him the watch face they had on their own watches.
At weekly check ins Darryl would share how he had been tracking his steps each day. He said he would go out a walk with his Gran each week and work on their steps together.
The health watch has helped Darryl work on his health and wellbeing and his digital inclusion outcomes. He has also worked on his Natural Friendships outcome by showing the other members what he has been working on. This has helped Darryl engage with other members in the Network and they were very supportive to him which has helped with his confidence to engage more.
Darryl commented – ‘This watch is great, It has given me and my gran something to work towards each week. We try and get our steps higher.’
